Surman [2] ( Arabic: صرمان , English Sorman ) is a city in northwestern Libya on the Mediterranean coast.

Civil War
On June 20, 2011, NATO’s airstrikes on Surman led to the bombing of residential areas, several civilians were killed, including two children and their mother. NATO recognized the fact of the bombing, but did not recognize the fact of civilian casualties. The representative of NATO made a statement that airstrikes hit precisely military facilities [3] .
On August 14, 2011, PNS militant units announced that the city was captured in battle during a major offensive by insurgents along the coast. 10 were killed and 40 captured by Gaddafi. No PNS losses have been reported.
