Codepage 850 is used in Western Europe on personal computers with MS-DOS and other similar operating systems, as well as in Microsoft Windows console programs.
CP850 differs from CP437 in that it includes all the ISO 8859-1 characters and, therefore, provides much better support for Western European languages. For this, it was necessary to sacrifice part of pseudographics and other exotic symbols (in particular, those symbols of pseudographics were removed where single lines intersect with double ones - for example, ╢ ╨ ╫ раны).
A variant of the CP850 is the CP858 , which differs only in that it has the euro (€) symbol in position 0xD5 - where the CP850 had “ i without a dot ” (ı).
Based on the CP850, several more national encodings were created, including the Cyrillic CP855 .
