Biography

Maria Mancini was the daughter of Baron Michele Lorenzo di Mancini and Jeronyms Mazarin, and the niece of the regent of France, Cardinal Jules Mazarin, that is, one of the so-called mazarinets . As a child, Maria was sent to her uncle cardinal in France, where she spent the first two years in a monastery. At the age of 16, in 1655, the girl was introduced to the French court in the Louvre . Mary was the first great love of the young king Louis XIV and had a great influence on him, thanks to which the king became interested in literature and gradually estranged from his mother, Anna of Austria and Mazarin himself. Maria and Louis were about to get married, but both the Queen Mother and the Cardinal were strongly opposed - despite the fact that the King begged for permission, kneeling. This love affair ended only after the betrothal of Louis XIV with the Spanish infantry Maria Theresa .

In France, the Duke of Lorraine was married to Maria Mancini, but this marriage did not take place. In 1661, she married Prince Lorenzo Onofrio Colonna (1637–1689), the great horse of Naples. Moving to Rome, Mary led a very free lifestyle. Married to Lorenzo Colonna, she gave birth to three sons: Filippo II Colonna , Duke Paliano (1663-1714), Marcantonio Colonna (1664-1715) and Carlo Colonna (1665-1739), who later became a cardinal. This marriage, however, was unsuccessful. The couple cheated on each other, and because of this there were quarrels and scandals. In 1672, Maria left her husband and, with her sister Hortense, left for France. Until 1689, Mary lived in various countries of Europe, often staying for a long time in monasteries. After the death of her husband Colonna in 1689, she returned to Italy. M. Mancini died in one year with his greatest love - King Louis XIV.
