Biography
Fernando Trueba, after graduating from the Faculty of Social Sciences, worked as a critic in a number of periodicals, in particular, in El País and others. Later he founded his own magazine “ Casablanca ”. In parallel, he shot short films, while in 1980 he did not debut on the big screen with tape " pripera prima ", warmly received criticism. Already in this picture the mixture of heavy, sometimes terrible external circumstances and warm, even sardonic humor, characteristic of his style, is noticeable. From the beginning of his career, he worked with producer Andres Vicente Gomez, after a while he began to work with his younger brother David , but he also often acts as a producer, as well as a screenwriter and actor in his films.
Known for his nontrivial statement at the Oscars for the best foreign film of the year in 1994: “ If I believed in God, I would have thanked Him. But I believe only in Billy Wilder , and therefore I express my gratitude to him . ”
In September 2012, at the 60th anniversary film festival in San Sebastian, Fernando Trueba was awarded the Silver Shell to the best director for the film The Artist and His Model . The author of the book " My cinema dictionary ."
