Of those who were given this special rank, many were shot or injured during the years of mass Stalinist repressions and after the death of I.V. Stalin .
07/06 . 1945 by a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR “On ranks, uniforms and insignia of the commanding staff of the People’s Commissariat of Internal Affairs and the People’s Commissariat of State Security of the USSR”, the special ranks of the chief of the NKVD and the NKGB were replaced by combined military ranks.
Insignia
The insignia from 1935 are three red silk stars with a gold trim on the sleeves. In 1936, golden metal stars were installed on the buttonholes, as well as the state security emblem on the left sleeve.
The question of the insignia in special departments remained open for some time due to coordination between the People's Commissariat of Defense and the NKVD. By joint order of the NKO / NKVD No. 91/183 of 23.05 . 1936 the "Regulation on the Special Bodies of the GUGB NKVD of the USSR" was announced, according to which uniforms and insignia of the military-political composition of the corresponding rank were established for employees of special departments of the NKVD who worked in the troops for conspiracy.
Since 1937 - three “rhombuses” in buttonholes, GB emblems on both sleeves. Order of the NKVD No. 278 dated 15.06 . 1937 the system of insignia was changed. Patch insignia were canceled, the shape of the buttonholes was changed. Buttonholes were installed in two types: for a tunic or jacket and for an overcoat. Buttonholes at gymnasts retained their former shape and size. Buttonholes on overcoats had a diamond shape with rounded concave upper sides. The height of the buttonholes is 11 cm, the width is 8.5 cm. The color of the buttonholes remains the same: maroon with raspberry edging. Signs of distinction were established, similar to those accepted in the Red Army.
Order of the NKVD No. 126 of 18.02 . 1943 in accordance with the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR "On the introduction of new insignia for the personnel of the organs and troops of the NKVD" dated 09.02 . 1943 instead of the existing buttonholes, new insignia were introduced - epaulettes, and the rules for wearing uniforms by the personnel of the CCCP NKVD bodies were approved.
