Biography

Born on January 28, 1898 in Sombor in the family of a lawyer. Konyovich’s first exhibition took place in 1914 , when he was a student at the gymnasium . He exhibited fifty paintings. In 1919 he entered the Prague Academy of Fine Arts in the class of Vlacho Bukovac , then continued his studies on his own, visited for education purposes Vienna (1923), Berlin , Munich , Dresden . Until 1932, Konyovich lived with his wife Emma in Paris , where he took part in exhibitions at the Paris Salon, then returned to Sombor.

In Sombor, the artist devoted his work to his native places, and also painted in Dalmatia . In 1941, Konyovich was imprisoned in a camp, where he made many drawings , and when he returned to Sombor, he began to paint in muted, gray tones. In 1985, Konyovich began to draw the first variations on the Byzantine theme and in 1990 presented about 30 works from the "Byzantine period". In 1986 he became a member of the Yugoslav Academy of Sciences and Arts, and in 1992 - a member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts . He died on October 20, 1993 in his native Sombor.

Periods

  • The early period (1913-1928) - cubism , neoclassicism , academicism .
  • The period of blue color (1929-1933) - during this period, the artist made color an important element of the paintings and achieved good results by creating several high-quality paintings that were praised by critics . It coincides with the period of Konyovich’s residence in Paris.
  • The red period (1934-1940) is the period when the artist lived and worked in his native city, painted a lot of landscapes.
  • The period of gray color (1941-1952) - the military and post-war period; Konovich began to draw a cemetery , a funeral , beggars.
  • The coloristic period (1953-1960) is characterized by pure color, light motifs.
  • The associative period (1960-1985) - emotional, sharp works.
  • Byzantine period (1985-1990) - works of this period are inspired by Byzantine art .
