Content
Title
The name of the village ( Kalm. Burul ) goes back to the ethnonym " burul " - the name of one of the Kalmyk clans (literally translated as "gray-haired, roan, brown" [3] ).
History
It was founded at the beginning of the 20th century on the lands of the Abaganerov clan of the Bolshederbetovsky ulus as the Karpenko farm, by the name of the owner of these lands, who lived in St. Petersburg . According to the List of Populated Places of the Stavropol Province in 1909, in the farm of the peasant Yakov Karpenko there was 1 yard, 20 male and 15 female souls lived [4] .
After the establishment of Soviet power, in the 1920s the village was renamed Gorodovikovo , in honor of O. I. Gorodovikov [5] .
On December 28, 1943, the Kalmyk population was deported . The village, like other settlements of the Western region, was transferred to the Rostov region .
The Kalmyk population began to return after the lifting of restrictions on movement in 1956 [6] . The village was returned to the newly formed Kalmyk Autonomous Region in 1957
In 1971, by the Decree of the Presidium of the Armed Forces of the RSFSR, the village of Gorodovikovsk was renamed Burul [7] .
Physico-geographical characteristics
The village is located within the Stavropol Upland . The average height above sea level is 78 m [1] . The terrain is flat. From the south, west and east, the village is surrounded by fields . To the east of the village begins the Gakhin beam. From the north, the village bypasses the Rostov distribution channel No. 4 [8] ., Relating to the Right-Egorlyksky irrigation and watering system
By road, the distance to the capital of Kalmykia, the city of Elista, is 250 km, to the district center of Gorodovikovsk - 8 km, to the administrative center of the rural settlement of the village of Yuzhny - 16 km (along country roads - 7 km) [9] . The village has a paved driveway (3 km) from the Salsk - Gorodovikovsk highway.
According to the Köppen-Geiger classification of climates, the village is located in the continental climate zone with relatively cold winters and hot summers (Dfa index) [1] . In the vicinity of the chernozem village, low-power, low-humus and dark chestnut soils of various particle size distributions [10] .
