Creation

It was established on October 19, 1920 as a unit of the National Guard [1] . The sleeve chevron for the division was approved by the United States Secretary of War on 5 October 1921 [2] .

World War II

Composition: 71,114,324th Infantry Regiments; 157th (wednesday), 158,217,229th (leg.) Field artillery battalions.

Campaigns: North-Western Europe (September 1944 - May 1945; 7th Army).

The division was disbanded in November 1945 [3] .

After World War II

The Second 44th Infantry Division was formed as a unit of the Illinois National Guard in 1946 [4] . Disbanded on October 10, 1954 [5] .
