Honda Home Power Station

Home Energy Station ( eng. Home Energy Station ) - a unit manufactured by Honda for the domestic production of hydrogen , electricity and thermal energy.

Content

First developments

The first version of Home Energy Station was developed in 2003 by Honda R&D America, a second version in 2004 . In 2001 , Honda R&D America began developing a home power plant that produces hydrogen by electrolysis of water . Electricity was generated by photovoltaic cells .

Third Generation

In November 2005 , the Honda R&D America research unit, together with Plug Power (USA), introduced the Third Generation Home Energy Station (Home Energy Station III). Its fuel cells generate 5 kW of electricity for domestic needs and heat for heating a house. Part of the hydrogen goes to refuel the car . The third-generation station is 30% less than the previous version, electricity generation increased by 25%. Hydrogen storage capacity and hydrogen production rate increased by 50%. A hydrogen storage tank is used to refuel the car.

The Home Energy Station III will be sold along with the Honda FCX hydrogen cars in California from 2008. The HES III can be installed inside a garage or outdoors.

Device

HES III consists of:

  • natural gas reformer with a capacity of 2 m 3 hydrogen per hour (under normal conditions, 0 ° C, 1 atmosphere).
  • hydrogen purification systems
  • fuel cell
  • compressor
  • 132 liter hydrogen storage tank.

Ecology

According to estimates, the Honda HES can reduce CO 2 emissions by 40%, and the cost of energy supply at home by 50%.

Similar developments

Similar developments are underway:

  • Toyota with Aisin Seiki Co. since 2001 . The beginning of tests in domestic conditions is planned for the first half of 2010 [1] . Toyota's home system draws hydrogen from natural gas , liquefied petroleum gas or kerosene . Toyota predicts that the price of a home power plant will be around $ 4,100.
  • General Motors is developing a home system for refueling hydrogen cars. GM hopes home gas stations will go on sale in 2011 when deliveries of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles begin.
