Mona ( talayn , မွန်လူမျိုး ; mùn lùmjóʊ ) is a people living in southern Myanmar , mainly in the state of Mon and neighboring areas of Myanmar, and in southwestern Thailand . Language - Mon , refers to the Mon-Khmer branch of the Austro-Asian family of languages ; there is a writing dating back to the VI century BC. e. Religion Buddhists .

In the 1st mil. e. they developed the early states ( Dvaravati and others). Since the end of the 1st millennium e. Burmese entered the country of Mon from the north, destroying the monastic state of Dvaravati in the middle of the 18th century . Mona had a great cultural influence on the Burmese. Some of the monks in Myanmar were assimilated by the Burmese and Karen .
