Biography
Born on September 1, 1947 in the village of Russkaya Polyana, Omsk Region .
In the Navy since 1966 . In 1967 he graduated from the Emergency and Rescue School of the Black Sea Fleet , in 1970 - the training department for divers-technicians at the Leningrad Higher Naval Engineering School .
In 1970, V. S. Slasten was appointed to the post of commander of an underwater mining group - a diving specialist in the underwater mining unit of the Baltic Fleet .
In October 1975, V. S. Slasten joined the State Research Institute for Emergency Rescue, Diving and Deep-Sea Operations of the USSR Ministry of Defense .
For 22 years of service, he held the following posts: test officer (1975-1982), senior test officer (1982-1985), deputy head of department (1985-1990), head of the laboratory - diving specialist (1990-1997).
In 1978, he graduated in absentia from the Higher Naval Engineering School named after F.E. Dzerzhinsky with a degree in shipbuilding. Since September 1997, V. S. Slasten in stock.
Feat
In 1995, V. S. Slasten, along with the 2nd-rank captain A. G. Khramov, took part in a long-term scientific experiment, during which unique medical and scientific experiments were conducted on the problem of human being in super-depths. The dive lasted more than two weeks.
For 30 calendar years of service, V. S. Slasten spent more than 10,000 hours under water, mastered at least two dozen different professions .
Rewards
By the decree of the President of the Russian Federation of September 15, 1995, for the courage and heroism shown during the performance of a special task in conditions involving a risk to life, the 1st rank captain Valery Semenovich Slasten was awarded the title Hero of the Russian Federation [1] .
