It is located on the territory of the Zavolzhye Nature Park, 20 km northwest of the village of Sosnovka , surrounded by a pine forest. The Parat River flows 1.5 km from the lake. The lake has a karst origin, oval in shape, somewhat elongated from the northeast to southwest.
The area of the lake is 13 ha, length - 500 m, width - 350 m, maximum depth - 16 m. Before the construction of the Cheboksary reservoir, the maximum depth was 8.9 m (data from SevNIIIGiM, 1967). The water in the lake is exceptionally clear, without color or smell. Transparency reaches 2 m. The temperature of the surface layer is 22 ° C (July 1996).
Aquatic vegetation encircles the shores of the lake with a strip of width up to 10 m. Among the vegetation, reed prevails, brilliant rust, pinnatifolia, narrow-leaved cattle, sedge is pseudophyllous, swamp cypress, yellow capsule, arrowworm, aquatic red, red winged winged salmon, European redbird, red shrub. There are several species of fish in the lake: silver carp, scaly carp, crucian carp, tench, pike, rattan, roach.
Residents of Chuvashia and Mari El often relax and fish here.
Lake Svetloye with adjacent forests with a total area of 396 hectares has the status of a natural monument of national importance [1] .
