Chizhikov, Pyotr Vasilyevich

Born in the village of Vladimirovka, Borisoglebsky district, Tambov province (now a village in the Trinity village council of the Muchkap district of the Tambov region ) ^[1] . In 1940 he was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since 1943 - on the fronts of World War II ^[2] .

Assistant to the commander of the rifle platoon, senior sergeant Chizhikov for participating in the battle near the village of Abinskaya , in which he personally destroyed up to 15 German soldiers and officers, on May 14, 1943 he was awarded the medal “For Courage” ^[3] .

On September 3, 1943, a platoon of junior lieutenant Chizhikov participated in the battle for the Podgorny farm. With his platoon, Chizhikov was the first to burst into the location of enemy units. A platoon destroyed up to 50 German soldiers and officers. In the battle he was twice wounded, but did not leave the battlefield. For this battle he was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree ^[4] .

For the difference in battle, he was also awarded the Order of the Red Star ^[5] .

The commander of the rifle platoon of the 1137th rifle regiment of the 339th rifle division of the 56th army of the North Caucasus Front, Lieutenant Chizhikov distinguished himself in battles during the breakthrough of the Blue Line by the Soviet troops and the liquidation of the Kuban bridgehead, as well as during the liberation of Crimea . On November 11, 1943, during the battles on the Kerch Peninsula , at the head of his platoon, Chizhikov attacked the German defense line on the outskirts of the village of Kapkeny . In the battle, he personally killed two enemy officers, destroyed the machine gun crew and, capturing the machine gun, opened fire on the retreating Germans. In a street battle in the village of Kapkeny, with a blow from the rear, together with his group, he destroyed more than 30 enemy soldiers and officers, destroyed 3 bunkers , 5 machine-gun points. Despite the wound, Chizhikov did not leave the battlefield and continued to fight. In total, in the battles on the Kerch Peninsula, a platoon of Chizhikov destroyed more than 70 German soldiers and officers. For this battle Chizhikov was presented to the title of Hero of the Soviet Union ^[2] .

In the battles for the liberation of Kerch, a platoon of Chizhikov took part, starting from January 22, 1944 . For the difference in this battle, Chizhikov was awarded the Order of the Red Banner ^[5] .

By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of May 16, 1944, Lieutenant Pyotr Chizhikov was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal ^[2] .

After the seventh wound and treatment at the hospital, he served in the Lenin military registration and enlistment office of Krasnodar. In July 1945, he was transferred to the reserve. Subsequently became a criminal.

In December 1948, convicted by the Krasnodar Regional Court under Art. 2 of the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 4, 1947 "On criminal liability for the theft of state and public property" and part 1 of article 169 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR (fraud), sentenced to 20 years in prison. He was released ahead of schedule in 1955.

September 13, 1957, being under investigation for the commission of new crimes, deprived of awards and the title of Hero of the Soviet Union by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. In the same year he was sentenced to 6 years in prison for embezzlement of state property. Released ahead of schedule in 1960.

In December 1961, he was convicted of stealing personal property for 5 years in prison. Since February 1968, he lived in the village of Achkhoy-Martan , the regional center of the Chechen-Ingush Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic . The further fate is unknown ^[1] .
