Biography

Julien Noel Costantin was born on August 16, 1857 in the city of Paris in France. He studied at the Paris Polytechnic and Higher Normal Schools . In 1879, Castantin graduated from the Higher Normal School with a degree in mathematics and physics, then began to study biology and in 1881 received a bachelor's degree in natural science. In 1883, he was awarded a Ph.D. for his work Étude comparée des tiges aériennes et souterraines des dicotylédones . In the same year he was appointed assistant professor at the University of Bordeaux . In 1884, Julien returned to Paris and began working at the National Museum of Natural History . In 1887 Kostanten became an assistant professor of botany at the Higher Normal School. He also taught at the Versailles National School of Agriculture. In 1912, Julien Noel became a member of the French Academy of Sciences . In 1919, he replaced Edward van Tighem as head of the botany department of the Museum. Julien Kostanten died on November 17, 1936 in Paris.
