Arkhangelsk State Circus

The first summer wooden circus buildings in Arkhangelsk were built in 1905 by N. Lar, who held an enterprise in Arkhangelsk until 1908 and A. Izako, who held an enterprise until 1910. Since 1910, the troupe of the famous circus artist Semyon Pavlov worked in the Izako circus. In 1913, the circus burned down, in the same year Pavlov built a new circus building in Solombal , which existed until 1925.

The State Circus in Arkhangelsk was built by the Central Administration of State Circuses in 1929. The opening of the first Arkhangelsk State Circus took place on August 1, 1930. A wooden building burned down in 1958. In 1962, a new circus building was built. The circus was summer, with a reinforced concrete dome without supporting columns, with special stables and rooms for animals. Total area - 3145 sq.m. The circus functioned from April to October. Among the directors of the Arkhangelsk circus were: M. Ziberov, V. Musatov, A. Simnansky, K. Vogel, I. Bleicher, V. A. Zakharov. In 1989, due to the need to repair the building, the circus was closed.

The circus belongs to the Arkhangelsk branch of Rosgoszirk , and the areas are leased for warehouses. ^[one]

There is no funding for the repair of the circus building, it is in terrible condition, the threat of a dome collapse is likely. ^[2] Repeated attempts have been made to restore the circus building ^[3] .

In 2007, the director of the Arkhangelsk circus Mikhail Milkis spoke about the construction on the site of the old circus of a new variety circus complex under the auspices of the Russian State Circus Company . as well as the construction of a new building in its place ^[4] ,

In 2010, during a meeting with the Minister of Finance of the Russian Federation Alexei Kudrin, Deputy Governor of the Arkhangelsk Region for Infrastructure Development Sergey Molchansky said that a project was prepared for the reconstruction of the city circus building. It is planned to create a modern arena, where it will be possible to hold not only circus performances, but also forums, exhibitions, concerts. The only problem is the financing of work. ^[five]

In August 2012, the CEO of Rosgoszirk Alexander Kalmykov said that in Soviet times the Arkhangelsk circus was unprofitable, because it worked only 2-3 months a year. ^[6]

By 2018, the building is still in disrepair.
