Stadium History
The stadium was opened in 1956. The first battle took place on March 15, and the official opening took place in December of the same year. As planned, his task was to promote Muay Thai not only within the country, but also abroad. For these purposes, both tayboxers and other types of fighters from abroad were invited to the ring. Also at the beginning of existence, stadiums often fought in classic boxing . Lumphini is a subordinate institution of the Thai army. Prapas Jarasatien was the man who motivated the creation of this sports facility. The first director was Colonel Erb Siangrid, who ruled from 1956 to 1961.
March 4, 1988 is a tragic date in the history of the stadium. On this day, during a star battle, one of the promoters fired, as a result of which several people died [3] .
February 8, 2014 was the last event in the old arena of Lumphini. The Thai army has built a new, more spacious stadium for 3,500 spectators, which inherited the historical name. The construction of the new arena cost 380 million baht and lasted 2 years. Lumphini moved from his historic address, Rama IV Road, to Ram Intra Road. The official opening of the arena took place on February 28 [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] .
The stadium has 11 promoters who can exhibit their fighters. The lower threshold is 45.5 kg for speakers and 15 years for age. Ticket price varies from 90 to 2000 baht depending on the level of the event. Tickets for foreigners are more expensive than for Thai citizens [9] . Fights are held on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The stadium has its own gambling license, which is generally prohibited in Thailand. Bets are accepted through directional gestures. Players at bets prefer higher ranks, while foreign guests occupy places around the ring.
Among the most famous champions of Lumphini are such fighters as Disenna Chor Tanasukarn, who spoke in the early 80s and held the belt for four years. He defeated Samart Payakarun , who in Thailand is called the best fighter in the history of this sport. As a result, the organizers of the battles at the stadium took away his champion title due to lack of competition. In 1975, a fight between Put Lorleck, nicknamed the Angel Boxer [10] and Visarno Prontavi, set a box office record in Muay Thai. The winner of this battle - Lorlek - did not lose at Lumphini for seven years and spent 80 fights on it. A transvestite boxer Nung Tum performed many times at the stadium. In the world, the stadium became famous thanks to the performances of such European masters as Ivan Hippolytus , Rob Kaman and Ramon Dekkers [11] .
