Yaakov Marga ( Hebrew יעקב מרגי ; born November 18, 1960 , Morocco ) is an Israeli politician, member of the Knesset ( 16 , 17 , 18 , 19 , 20 convocations), former Minister of Religious Affairs of Israel .

Biography

Yaakov Marga was born on November 18, 1960 in Morocco , in 1962 he repatriated to Israel . Margie served in the Israel Defense Forces . From 1993 to 2003, he worked as chairman of the religious committee in Be'er Sheva. Since 2001, he has been the General Director of Shas .

In 2003, he was first elected to the Knesset ( 16th convocation ), he was a member of the Commission on Science and Technology, the Special Commission on Foreign Workers, the Commission on Appeals of Citizens and the Commission on the Rights of the Child.

In 2006, he was re-elected to the Knesset of the 17th convocation , worked as a member of the financial commission, the joint commission on the defense budget, the commission on internal affairs and environmental protection, the commission on citizens' appeals, the commission on the rights of the child, the Knesset commission, and the foreign affairs commission and safety and ethics commissions. In addition, Margie was chairman of the Knesset Commission.

In the government formed by Benjamin Netanyahu in 2009 , Margi became Minister of Religious Affairs [2] .

In February 2016, Yaakov Margi led a delegation of the Israeli Knesset who visited Crimea. In this regard, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Israel Gennady Nadolenko said that because of this incident, Kiev could cancel the visa-free regime for Israeli citizens. In particular, for pilgrims to Uman [3] .

Personal life

Margie is married, has two children, lives in the moshav Sde Zvi [4] .
