Biography
Jong Do Young spent five years starring in television dramas before instantly achieving stardom by playing Contact in her debut work (1997). In the future, she established herself as a chameleon actress who is able to cope with a wide range of roles: from a schoolgirl in love in the romantic drama Organ of My Heart to an adulteress wife in A Happy Ending. In 1999 and 2000, she received the Blue Dragon and Big Bell awards in the nominations for Best Actress for her role in the film "The Organ of My Heart" [2] .
In 2001, she played the role of the most ordinary bank teller in the film "I would like for me to have a wife." After starring in the movie “No Blood, No Tears,” Jong Do Yeon spent time filming in the television drama “Shoot for the Stars.” In 2003, she was waiting for box office success with the film “The Hidden Scandal,” which was shot on the basis of the famous French novel, Dangerous Communications . The following year, she played a double role in the melodrama "My Mom is a Mermaid" [2] .
In 2005, Jung Do Young again attracted widespread attention by playing a prostitute who is infected with AIDS in the melodrama "You are My Joy." The film managed to collect good box office and win several prestigious awards for the actress. Then the actress returned to television, where she starred in the series "Lovers in Prague." Her work has become a rare example of how a series and a movie have achieved wide success with the same actor or actress.
But the real success came to Jung Do Young only after filming in the movie "Secret Radiance." It was for this role that she received the award for best actress from the jury of the Cannes Film Festival, becoming the first Korean woman to ever receive an award in Cannes (before that, only director Pak Chanook received the award in Cannes).
After starring in the movie “My Sweet Enemy,” Jung gave birth to a daughter and took some time off from work. But already in 2010, she confirmed her status as a leading Korean actress, playing a major role in the film "The Handmaid." The actress once again starred nude, previous films that also contained bed scenes were Hidden Scandal and Happy Ending.
Her last role at the moment (2012) was the main role in the film “The Irony of Fate”, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival [3] .
Jung Do Young is one of the few Korean actresses to receive recognition not only in Asia but also in Europe.
In 2014, she was a member of the jury of the 67th Cannes Film Festival .
