Story
The episode begins at Springfield Elementary School , where the Simpsons children study. There is a Christmas party, Homer and Marge Simpsons , sitting in the hall, watching children performances. Second-graders represent Santa Clauses from different countries: Lisa in a very revealing outfit and mask, armed with two burning sticks, performs the Santa Claus dance of the South Seas. The fourth grade choir performs Christmas songs, but Bart deliberately misinterprets the words and is kicked out of the scene.
In the evening, at home, the family is busy with pre-holiday troubles - Homer is trying to decorate the roof with garlands of light bulbs, Marge writes letters to relatives, and children to Santa Claus. Lisa wants a pony, and Bart wants a tattoo, but Marge forbids him to. At the Springfield nuclear power plant , where Homer works, the Christmas award is canceled. At the same time, Marge spends all of his savings on laser surgery to remove the tattoo, which Bart secretly did. As a result, the Simpsons on the eve of the holiday are almost without money. But Homer hides the lack of a bonus from his wife: he makes purchases himself, and he cuts the tree illegally in the forest so as not to waste money.
His friend Barney Gumble gives him the idea to work as Santa Claus, but when it comes time to get paid, Homer is given just $ 13. Together with his son, he goes on a dog race in the hope of winning, but his last money disappears when he puts on a dog nicknamed Little Santa Claus Helper. The owner drives this dog, and Bart persuades Homer to take it. So the father and son return home without money, but with a new four-legged friend, and the whole family joyfully celebrates Christmas, forgetting about the problems.
Production
Fox was very worried about this show, because they were not sure that they would be able to maintain the interest of the audience throughout the series. They thought that the best option would be to make three seven-minute episodes in the series and four special episodes before the audience gets used to. In the end, the creators took a chance by offering them to shoot 13 full-length episodes. It was planned to premiere the series in the fall of 1989, however, due to serious problems with the animation of the series “ One of the Magic Evenings ”, the series began on December 17, 1989 with this series. The series "One of the Magic Evenings" was released as the last of the season.
This series does not have an introductory intro for the other episodes, which was later added by Graining, a burning desire to create a long intro.
David Silverman directed this series, although Rich Moore produced a storyboard and came up with Flanders. Several scenes were directed by Eric Stephanie, brother of Gwen Stefani . In this series, Barney had yellow hair that was the same color as his skin, but it was later decided that only the Simpsons should have that hair.
