Biography
Born in the city of Donetsk, Donetsk region, Ukrainian SSR .
In 1946, after graduating from high school in Donetsk, he entered the hydrographic faculty of the Higher Naval School named after M.V. Frunze . After graduating from college in 1950, he was sent to the Pacific Fleet , where he served as group commander, senior officer and commander of a manipulative detachment . Participated in navigational and hydrographic support for combat training of naval forces.
In 1958 he was transferred to the Baltic Fleet , where for 13 years he served as chief of a part of navigation equipment , deputy chief and chief of a hydrographic area .
In 1970 he was appointed head of the organizational and planning department of the Hydrographic Directorate (since 1972 - the Main Directorate of Navigation and Oceanography) of the USSR Ministry of Defense . While in this position, he made a significant contribution to the organizational strengthening of the Hydrographic Service of the Fleets and parts of the Hydrographic Service of the Navy of central subordination.
In 1974, he was appointed head of the hydrographic service of the Baltic Fleet , which he held until 1979. In this post, he contributed to the widespread introduction of new technical tools and new methods of hydrographic support of the fleet. Under his leadership, a broad front of work was launched on the construction of important objects of navigational equipment, a detailed hydrographic survey of the Baltic Sea coast was organized, which was the key to successfully solving the tasks of navigational-hydrographic and hydrometeorological support for naval forces.
From 1979 to 1988 held the post of head of the navigation equipment department of the Main Directorate of Navigation and Oceanography of the USSR Ministry of Defense , supervised the work on creating new means of navigation equipment , transferring means of navigation equipment to new promising energy, construction and development of means of navigation equipment on the country's seas.
After serving in the Navy in 1988 , until the last day he continued to work actively in the lighthouse department of the Main Directorate of Navigation and Oceanography of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation , heading the department of navigation equipment.
Occupying leadership positions in the system of the Navy of the USSR and heading delegations of the Soviet Union at international conferences and congresses of hydrographic services, E.K. Gnitshevich made a significant contribution to the development of hydrographic studies of the North Atlantic region, was the ideologist of creating a modern system of navigation equipment and ensuring the safety of navigation in the Baltic Sea [1] .
He died on March 20, 2001 in St. Petersburg after a serious long illness, and was buried in the Smolensk cemetery of St. Petersburg [2] .
Rewards
For success in the service, he was awarded many orders and medals, including the medal for military merit ( 1968 ), the Order of the Red Banner of Labor ( 1978 ), the order for service to the homeland in the Armed Forces of the third degree ( 1986 ), etc.
Memory
In 2005, the name of E.K. Gnitsevich was assigned an underwater mountain range in the northeastern Atlantic Ocean , located at a distance of about 1,500 km from the Spanish city of Vigo , located on the Atlantic coast. Coordinates : 44 ° 32'00 "north latitude, 25 ° 17 '00" west longitude [1] are located at a depth of 920 meters. The water pressure on the surface of the mountains is 9.3 MPa [2] .
By order of the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy V.I. Korolev dated 06/15/2017 No. 652 name E.K. Gnitsevich assigned BGK-2149 "Eugene Gnitsevich" project 19920 ; the naming ceremony took place on October 13, 2017, on the day of the 190th anniversary of the Hydrographic Service of the Russian Navy , on Nab. He was married to Gnitshevich (nee Karavatskaya ) Serafima Romanovna ( 1927 - 2007 ).
Children:
- Gnitshevich Svetlana Evgenievna (b. 1951 ), graduated from the Faculty of Chemistry of Leningrad State University A.A. Zhdanova ( 1974 ), before retiring, worked at the State Institute of Applied Chemistry (FSUE "RSC" Applied Chemistry ") [4] . Author of a number of scientific publications in chemistry, including in English-language journals, encyclopedias and collections.
- Gnitshevich Victor Evgenievich (b. 1955 ), graduated from the hydrographic faculty of the Higher Naval School named after M.V. Frunze ( 1977 ), in 1977 - 1999 . served in the VI Ocean Atlantic Expedition ( St. Petersburg , Lomonosov ). Captain 2nd rank in stock .
Grandson Konstantin Viktorovich Gnitshevich (b. 1983 ), lawyer , graduated from the St. Petersburg Law Institute (branch) of the Academy of the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation ( 2005 ) [5] . Engaged in research activities in the field of law, combining it with the practical work of a lawyer. PhD in Law ( St. Petersburg State University , 2010 [6] ), author of more than 30 scientific articles, 1 monograph on civil law [7] . Over the years, he oversaw the work of the legal service of a large industrial enterprise in the food industry of St. Petersburg as a deputy general director [8] . Since 2012, he has been a lawyer at the Lawyer Chamber of the Leningrad Region [9] , associate professor of the Department of Theory and History of State and Law , St. Petersburg State University of the State Fire Service of the Ministry of Emergencies of Russia [10] .
