Biography

Verseri has never played football professionally. He only played for 18 years in national competitions for the sports club Circulo de Tenis , where tennis , rugby and other sports are also cultivated. In an interview with Ovación, Verseri noted that playing in the University League helped him better adapt to the coaching profession.

In 1988, Verseri received the specialty of computer systems engineer at the University of the Republic . In 1990, he received a diploma of higher education in applied mathematics in the Italian Padua . In 2003, Versery graduated from sports marketing courses.

In 2008, he began his coaching career. First, he worked as an assistant coach in the Omani team, and then led Racing from Montevideo, a team that had previously returned to the Uruguayan Championship High Division. Verseri already in the Aperture of the 2008/09 season led Racing to 4th place, and in Klausur the team was seventh. At the end of the season, Racing took fifth place and ended up in the Ligilla zone. In this tournament, “Racing” took second place after “Cerro” and, thus, in the year of its 90th anniversary, for the first time in history made its way to the Copa Libertadores 2010 .

On January 28, 2010, Racing made its debut in the Libertadores Cup in an away match against Junior , a team that has its part in the finals of this tournament. The Uruguayan team managed not to lose (2: 2, while the hosts managed to even the score only in the added time), and in the home game “Racing” beat the “Junior” 2-0 and made their way to the main draw of the tournament. In the group stage, Racing also performed very confidently, taking the second place in the group after Corinthians . However, in that draw, two Mexican clubs were allowed to participate in the 1/8 finals automatically, so only 6 out of 8 teams came out in the playoffs, taking second place in their groups and Racing was not among the 16 best by the worst indicators teams of the continent.

In May 2010, it was announced the appointment of Juan Verseri as head coach of the Uruguayan youth team. On August 11 of the same year, Verseri served as the head coach of the Uruguayan national team (in the absence of Washington Tabares , whose assistant Verseri was appointed in parallel with the duties of the youth coach), who played her first friendly game after the World Cup, where the Uruguayans reached the semifinals. Uruguay defeated the Angola national team 2-0 in Lisbon , with Abel Hernandez scoring the second goal, for whom it was a debut game in the national team and who could play in the youth national team by age [1] [2] .

In early 2011, the Uruguayan youth team took second place in the South American Championship and for the first time since 1928 won the ticket to the Uruguay for the Olympic Games. In the summer of that year, the youth team unsuccessfully performed at the World Cup in Colombia , failing to leave the group. At the end of 2011, the Uruguayan youth team took third place at the Pan American Games .

In 2013, Verseri led the youth team to third place in the South American Championship, and then brought the team to the finals of the World Cup, where Celeste lost to the French only in a penalty shoot-out.

In early 2014, Verseri led the Saudi Al-Ittihad , but worked with this team for less than two months. From June to November 2015, Versheri led the Uruguayan Liverpool. Since 2016, he has been a member of the coaching staff of Diego Aguirre at the San Lorenzo de Almagro.
