Biography

Anton Antonovich Antonov was born in 1919 in the village of Sentovo of the Elisavetgrad district of the Kherson province of the Ukrainian Socialist Soviet Republic (now the village of Rodnikivka, Aleksandrovsky district, Kirovograd region of Ukraine ) in a peasant family. Ukrainian . Nonpartisan Primary education. Before the war, he worked as a turner at the Kirovograd factory "Red Star".

A. Antonov was called up to the ranks of the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army after the liberation of Kirovograd from the Nazi invaders. From January 1944, the Red Army soldier Antonov fought as a machine gunner for a light machine gun of the 1st rifle battalion of the 290th guards regiment of the 95th guards rifle division of the 5th guards army of the 2nd Ukrainian front . He participated in the battles for the Right-Bank Ukraine . Especially distinguished himself in the Uman-Botosha operation .

On March 23, 1944, the Red Army soldier A. A. Antonov, with his machine gun, first forced the Southern Bug near the village of Chausovo, Pervomaisky district, Nikolaev region of the Ukrainian SSR , and took up a firing position, repelled a counterattack by the enemy, who tried to prevent the crossing of the Soviet troops. In battle, destroyed 8 German soldiers. Developing a rapid offensive, the advanced parts of the division reached the Dniester River . On the night of April 12-13, 1944, in the group of eight volunteers under the command of the guard captain S. V. Tselykh, under the fire of the opponent of the guard, the red army soldier A. A. Antonov forced the Dniester near the village of Tashlyk . During the crossing Anton Antonovich was on the nose of the amphibious assault ship and with fire from a machine gun he suppressed the enemy firing points. Having secured the landing of the group on the right bank of the river, the machine-gunner A. A. Antonov heroically died.

For the exemplary performance of the combat tasks of the command on the front of the struggle against the German invaders and the courage and heroism shown by this decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated September 13, 1944, the guard Red Army Antonov Anton Antonovich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union posthumously. He was buried in a mass grave of Soviet soldiers in the village of Tashlyk of the Pridnestrovskaia Moldavskaia Respublika ).
