History
In 1884, the Xinjiang military authorities established a post station in these places. After the Xinhai Revolution since 1913, these lands became part of the Uusu County as the village of Kuitun (one of the nine county villages). After the formation of the PRC in August 1950, the administrative division was reorganized, and Kuytun became the 1st volost in the 2nd district of Wusu County. Since March 1957, one of the parts of the Xinjiang Industrial and Construction Building has been housed in Kuitong.
In 1958, Kuitun was separated from Wusu County and transferred to the newly formed Karamay City County. On March 25, 1975, the Xinjiang Industrial and Building Corps was disbanded, and the territories occupied by its parts were transferred under the control of local authorities. On August 29, 1975, by the decree of the State Council of the PRC, the city district of Kuitun was created, which was removed from the Karamay city district of the Chuguchak district and directly subordinated to the government of the Ili-Kazakh Autonomous Region. On September 10, 1975, the capital of Ili-Kazakh Autonomous Okrug was transferred from Kuldzhi to Kuitun.
In October 1979, the capital of the Ili-Kazakh Autonomous Okrug was returned from Kuituni to Kuldzha. In December 1981, the Xinjiang Industrial and Building Corps was recreated.
