Biography
Dixon, originally from London, moved to Manchester , where he entered university [1] . He was a member of several groups, recorded cover versions (including on Ellie Golding ), remixed the tracks Marina and the Diamonds and Everything Everything [2] . Initially performed under his real name, but then took a pseudonym to indicate a new stage in his music [1] , and began to appear in photographs and videos in a black domino mask [3] . His pseudonym refers to the biblical king David , who played the lyre . By his own admission, he was influenced by poetry, in particular the poems of Cummings and Sterns [4] . BBC journalist Mike Diver, in a review of the debut mini-album, compared Dixon with Patrick Woolf and Villagers [5] .
In August 2010, he released his debut single, “Tear Them Down,” produced by Amir Amor [2] . The song received a positive rating on The Guardian's website, where David's Lyre appeared in the Beginner of the Day section [2] . She was also featured on the New Musical Express list of “10 tracks you should hear this week” [6] . Less than six months later, he was again mentioned in this section, this time with the song “In Arms” [7] . Nick Grimshaw introduced her as the “single of the week” in his program on BBC Radio 1 [8] . The accompanying video clip was based on footage from the Russian animated short film “ Invention of Love ” [1] . The track was included in the self - titled mini-album , released on Hideout Recordings on February 21, 2011 [3] . David's Lyre toured with the band Chapel Club [8] , and in summer performed at the LeeFest festival [4] . On October 24, the single “Hidden Ground” [9] was released ; at the end of the year, cover versions of the songs “ Video Games ” by Lana Del Rey and “No Light, No Light” by Florence and the Machine [10] were presented.
February 20, 2012 released the studio album Picture of Our Youth , which was distributed through Bandcamp on a pay-as-you-go system [11] . Dixon announced that this was his last recording under the name David's Lyre and that he will be performing the opening act in a tour of Spector [10] .
Dixon continued his career under the name Fyfe and in April 2013 released the mini-album Solace [12] .
