History
In 1884, the Qing government created the province of Xinjiang, and from 1888 this territory became part of Ningyuan County . In 1903, the fortress of Tekistilu (Tokkuztar) was built here, subordinated to the Ili jiangjun . In 1932, Gunli County was formed. In 1937, Tekes county was separated from Gunü County. In 1939, the nomadic district of Kyunes (named after the river Kyunes) was separated from the structure of the county of Gunülü.
Geographical position
In the north, the county borders with Gulja and Nilki counties, in the west with Chapchal-Sibos autonomous county , in the south with Tekes county, in the east with Kyunes county, in the southeast with Binghol-Mongol autonomous region .
