During the Great Patriotic War, he went from the deputy commander of the 22nd tank regiment of the 11th tank division of the 2nd mechanized corps to the commander of the 9th tank corps . In the summer of 1941, Colonel I.F. Kirichenko fought in the 9th and 12th armies of the Southern Front, participated in defensive battles in Moldova and in the Tiraspol-Melitopol defensive operation , and left the Uman cauldron . Then he proved himself on the Western Front in the autumn and winter of 1941, commanding the 9th Tank Brigade . In 1942-1943 he participated in the Battle of Stalingrad to prevent the attempt of the Army Group "Don" Manstein to release the 6th Paulus Army ( Kotelnikov Operation ) surrounded in Stalingrad and in the Rostov Offensive Operation . As commander of the 29th Panzer Corps, he participated in a tank battle near Prokhorovka during the Battle of Kursk . In January 1944, his corps distinguished himself during the liberation of the regional center of Ukraine - Kirovograd , and in March-April 1944 he liberated the cities of Uman (Cherkasy region of Ukraine) and Soroki (Moldova). The lieutenant general of tank troops I.F. Kirichenko especially distinguished himself in January 1945 as the commander of the 9th Panzer Corps, who, under his able leadership during the Warsaw-Poznan offensive operation, broke through the German defenses on the left bank of the Vistula River and liberated the Polish cities of Radom , Lodz , Kalisz and Sulechow , going to the Oder River.

Early years
He was born on January 9 (22), 1902 in the city of Cherkasy (now Ukraine ), in a peasant family. Ukrainian. He graduated from elementary school. He worked as a student and worker in the printing house [1] .
Civil War
In the Red Army since August 1919. He was enlisted by the Red Army as a marching company in the city of Moshny , from March 1920 - the commander of the department in the 5th separate and 1st Soviet rifle regiments. Member of the Civil War , fought on the Southern Front against the troops of Generals A. I. Denikin and P. N. Wrangel [1] .
In March-August 1921 - the junior commander of the 459th Infantry Regiment of the 153rd Brigade in Ukraine, then sent to study [1] .
Interwar years
In 1923 he graduated from the 94th preparatory courses in Odessa, in 1925 - the 13th Odessa Infantry School. From August 1925 to October 1930, he was a platoon commander, a freak of a machine gun company commander and a rifle company commander, a regimental school platoon commander, an assistant company commander for political affairs, and a one-year-old company commander in the 131st rifle regiment of the Ukrainian military district ( Zhytomyr ). Member of the CPSU (b) / CPSU since 1927 [1] .
In 1930 he graduated from the Kiev military political courses , in 1932 - the Leningrad armored courses for improving the command staff of the Red Army (then graduated from them again in 1935). Since 1932 - commander of a tank company, commander of a training company, chief of staff and commander of a separate tank battalion of the 44th Infantry Division of the Ukrainian Military District [1] .
Since January 1938, on a special trip to the Mongolian People’s Republic , an instructor of the armored division of the 6th Cavalry Division of the MPRA [2] , participated in battles with Japanese troops on the Khalkhin-Gol River in 1939 [1] .
Since July 1940 - Deputy Commander of the 22nd Tank Regiment of the 11th Panzer Division of the 2nd Mechanized Corps of the Odessa Military District [1] .
During the Great Patriotic War
Member of the Great Patriotic War since June 1941. In the same position he fought in the 9th and 12th armies of the Southern Front, participated in defensive battles in Moldova and in the Tiraspol-Melitopol defensive operation , left the Uman boiler , where the corps died [1] .
He showed himself on the Western Front in the fall and winter of 1941, commanding the 9th Tank Brigade since September 1941. Unloading at the Balabanovo station, the brigade of Colonel I.F. Kirichenko immediately entered battle with the advancing German troops in the area of the cities of Kaluga and Moscow Regions they occupied - Maloyaroslavets and Naro-Fominsk . The tank crews of the Kirichenko brigade, among other units and formations of the 33rd and 43rd armies, firmly established themselves at the end of the Nara River along the Warsaw Highway at the end of October 1941. The defense was organized using an ambush system. The tanks were placed in caponiers - deep trenches, from which one tank tower is visible, which made it difficult for the shells and bombs of the enemy to hit [1] . From October 19 to 28, tankers of the Kirichenko brigade repelled enemy attacks 5-6 times a day, destroying 7 tanks and two infantry battalions in total. On November 1, for the courage and bravery shown, the head of the ABiTV department, Colonel S. P. Chernobay, introduced I. F. Kirichenko to the Order of Lenin (awarded on January 2, 1942) [3] .
The Mozhaisk line was held until November 26, 1941 [1] .
On December 9-11, the 5 remaining tanks of the brigade supported the advance of the units of the 2nd Guards Cavalry Division during the liberation of the city of Stalinogorsk [4] .
On January 5, 1942 “for the courage shown in battles with the German invaders, for stamina, courage, discipline and organization, for the heroism of the personnel”, the 9th Tank Brigade was transformed into the 2nd Guards Tank Brigade . In the winter and spring of 1942, the brigade advanced near Moscow [1] .
Since November 1942, he was deputy commander of the 2nd Guards Mechanized Corps , participated in the Battle of Stalingrad during the defeat of the attempt of Army Group Don Manshtein to release the 6th Paulus Army ( Kotelnikov Operation ) surrounded in Stalingrad and in the Rostov Offensive Operation [1] .
On March 2, 1943, Colonel I. Kirichenko, commander of the 29th Panzer Corps . During the Battle of Kursk, as part of the 5th Guards Tank Army of the Steppe Front, the corps took part in a tank battle near Prokhorovka , and then in the Belgorod-Kharkov offensive operation . In October-December 1943, corps tankers I.F. Kirichenko actively participated in the advance of the troops of the Stepnoy (from October 20, 1943 - 2nd Ukrainian ) front in the Krivorozhsky direction and in the operation to expand the bridgehead on the right bank of the Dnieper River south of Kremenchug . In January 1944, taking part in the Kirovograd offensive operation of the troops of the 2nd Ukrainian Front, the corps of General Kirichenko distinguished himself during the liberation of the regional center of Ukraine - Kirovograd . In February 1944, he participated in the Korsun-Shevchenko offensive operation . During the Uman-Botoshansk offensive operation, the 29th Panzer Corps (5th Guards Tank Army, 2nd Ukrainian Front) under the command of Lieutenant General of the Panzer Troops I.F. Kirichenko in March-April 1944 marched nearly 300 kilometers , forced the Southern Bug , Dniester and Prut rivers , liberated the cities of Uman (Cherkasy region of Ukraine) and Soroki (Moldova) [1] .
Since June 1944, I.F. Kirichenko, deputy commander of the 5th Guards Tank Army on the 1st Baltic Front , participated in the Belarusian and Baltic offensive operations. Since January 1945 - commander of the 9th Panzer Corps on the 1st Belorussian Front. The commander Kirichenko commanded this compound in the Vistula-Oder , East Pomeranian and Berlin offensive operations. The commander of the 9th Panzer Corps (33rd Army, 1st Belorussian Front), Lieutenant General of the Panzer Troops I.F.
