Content

Publication History

Carol Danvers was created by writer Roy Thomas and artist Jan Colan, and first appeared as a member of the US Air Force in the 13th edition of the Marvel Super-Heroes comic in March 1968, and became Miss Marvel's superhero in the 1st issue of Ms. Marvel " in January 1977. In July 2012, Carol Danvers took on the mantle of Captain Marvel in the eponymous series, created by writer Kelly Sue DeConnick and artist Dehter Soyem [5] .

Biography

Carol Danvers, with her love of aviation, after graduating from high school, got a job in the US Air Force to make her dreams of flying. Carol was the best student at the Air Force Academy and quickly promoted, rising to the rank of major. Due to her performance, excellent combat skills and natural mind, Carol was recruited in the intelligence field. So she got into the Central Intelligence Agency , during the service in which she worked with Colonel Nick Fury . During Nick Fury's special assignment, Carol met Canadian agent Logan . They became partners and together went through many adventures. During one of their assignments, they encountered the brutal mutant Sabretooth , who worked for the Hellfire Club. Working together, Logan and Carol became close friends as well as lovers. They both saved each other's lives several times. When Carol was captured by the KGB , raped and imprisoned in the Lubyanka , Logan was among those who defied the law to save her.

After working with the CIA, Carol came to work at NASA and became director of security at Cape Canaveral . It was in this position that Carol first met Mar-Vella , a warrior of the alien Kriya race, known as Captain Marvel [6] . Carol was called upon to unravel the mystery of this alien soldier. During the investigation, Carol has a unique connection with the alien, first they become friends, and then lovers. It is these relationships that will forever change Carol's life.

Captain Marvel’s archenemy, Colonel Jon Rogg, kidnapped Carol, using her as a decoy in his conflict with Marvel. During the battle, Carol and Marvel were caught in the explosion of the Psycho-Magneton device of Kriya. The energy of the explosion caused the merging of Carol's genetic structure with the structure of Marvel, while Marvel did not change [7] . Carol was now an advanced hybrid of man and kriya. Thanks to this transformation, Miss Marvel was born.

Due to the refusal to seize and surrender Captain Marvel, Carol lost her job at NASA. She quickly recovered by writing a successful novel about her experience in the space industry, which led to her becoming the editor-in-chief of Woman magazine , a subsidiary of Daily Bugle . Carol's feminist views created tension with her boss Jay Jona Jameson , but made her the perfect choice as editor of a magazine.

Just as Carol began a new chapter in her life, her powers and personality, Miss Marvel, began to manifest. During her career, the superheroine Carol fought with many villains, including the Death Bird, MODOK , A.I.M. , Brotherhood of Mutants , Hellfire Club and Mystic . She joined the Avengers and acted with them for a short period of time, and it was Carol’s belonging to this team that attracted the attention of Marcus. Marcus, the son of the evil genius Immortus, watched the Avengers from afar and became obsessed with Miss Marvel. Marcus abducted Carol using Immortus technology to manipulate the mind [8] . Marcus and the drugged Carol conceived a child who would grow quickly and become Marcus, which allowed Marcus to escape the demonic dimension of Limbaugh, after which he returned Carol to the Avengers. Miss Marvel was shocked when she found out that she was pregnant, and devastated, because she was completely ignorant of her father's personality. Pregnancy lasted for several days, the child was born within one day into an adult who was determined to win the love of his "mother". Carol, still bewildered, agreed to accompany the newborn Marcus back to Limbo. In Limbo, Marcus continues to age rapidly and dies of old age, leaving Carol in the dimension without his mind control. Carol felt an aversion to Marcus' manipulations and betrayal of the Avengers.

Carol mastered Immortus' technology and returned to Earth and, without returning to the Avengers, settled in San Francisco . Carol's return to Earth was felt by the mutant fortune teller Fate. Fate had previously predicted that Miss Marvel would participate in an event that would destroy the life of Mystic Schelma's adopted daughter. Mystic vowed to destroy Miss Marvel before this could happen, and was filled with hatred for Miss Marvel. Shelma, overhearing the conversation of Fate and Mystic, decided to personally engage in battle with Carol. Shelma attacked Carol in San Francisco and they fought on top of the Golden Gate Bridge . When Shelma tried to use her power-absorbing ability on Carol, something went wrong and she absorbed too much Carol's personality, making the transference permanent. Maddened by Carol’s thoughts and memories, Shelma threw Miss Marvel’s body off the bridge [9] . Carol was rescued by Spider-Woman . At Carol Hospital, she was diagnosed with tabula rasa - a blank slate. Jessica Drew contacts Professor Xavier of the X-Men , who was able to bring back Carol's memories and personality by identifying them from her subconscious. However, he could not restore her emotional connection with these memories and experiences. Carol and Jessica spent some time at the X-Mansion until Carol recovered from the ordeal.

Carol stayed with the X-Men for a short time, during which she often accompanied them on a mission. One of these missions led to the capture of Carol by the aliens of the Broods race. Fascinated by her hybrid physiology of man and Kriya, Broods conducted experiments on her genetic structure. This unleashed Carol's full potential, transforming her into a Double Star [10] . Carol now had more power than ever because of her connection with the white hole.

Carol returned to the X-Men, considering joining them on an ongoing basis, but, having caught Shelmu, Carol became furious. The X-Men were reluctant to tell her that Professor X had allowed Schelme to join them. Disagreeing with this, Carol decided to join the space pirates, known as Star Extinguishers , and leave behind her problems on Earth. As a Double Star, Carol was a valuable member of Star Extinction and fought along with them to restore Lilandra as ruler of the Shi'ar Empire. Carol stayed with Star Extinguishers for a number of years, fulfilling her dream of exploring stars. She formed a close friendship with the cyborg Raza Longknife. Later, when the sun of the Earth was in jeopardy, Carol decided to abandon her mission in Shi'ar and help the Avenger Quasar in preserving the sun. This work ran out of Carol's strength and she spent a month at the Avengers Mansion. During this time, she reconciled with the Avengers. When the Star Extinguishers came to Earth and engaged in battle with the Avengers, Carol helped resolve the conflict, then she decided to try to restore her life on Earth.

Carol returned to the Avengers and called herself the Bird of War . But this was followed by many problems. First, her powers began to slowly deplete, she tried to hide this fact from the Avengers, which led to a conflict with Captain America . Carol also had problems with alcohol , which was immediately noticed by the recovering alcoholic Tony Stark . Her alcoholism , combined with her determination to prove herself a worthy addition to the Avengers and the concealment of the fact that she lost her strength, led to violations of her work with the Avengers. This ultimately jeopardized the lives of teammates and led to the formal Avengers military field court. Instead of facing her own problem and forcibly lowering her role to a reserve status, Carol left the group. All this happened amid the conflict between the Avengers and the Kriya rebel faction. In an attempt to join the battle despite leaving the team, Carol realized that she was no longer able to achieve second space speed in order to join the battle on the moon between heroes and aliens.

Despondent, Carol moved to Seattle to work on rebuilding her career as a writer. She began to make some progress in the fight against alcoholism, but refused to admit that it was a serious problem. After her acts committed while intoxicated, almost led to a disaster in some situations, Carol was hospitalized with alcohol poisoning. The doctor warned Carol that she had done significant damage to her body and another drink could kill her. This diagnosis, combined with the realization that she nearly destroyed a plane full of people during a drunken rage, made Carol admit the seriousness of her alcohol problem. After that, she began to attend meetings of anonymous alcoholics on a regular basis. Since then, she was again admitted to the Avengers and once again took the name Miss Marvel .

After the Scarlet Witch changed reality, Carol was one of the few who remembered these events. She was determined to prove that she was a true hero. Captain America invited her to join the new Avengers team, and after refusing, he assured that a place in the team was always vacant for her.

Miss Marvel fought her old enemy, Mystic, and the Captain Marvel clone created by the Skrulls during the Secret Invasion , after they were involved in a series of tragedies in the temples of the Hall Church dedicated to Mar-Vell. Carol allies with Captain America in countering the Iron Patriot during the siege of Asgard . She has a friendship with Spider-Man . Although at first he annoyed her, they continued to work together, and their friendship became closer after he helped her during the Dark Reign.

Carol Danvers later took the name Captain Marvel and joined the Guardians of the Galaxy .
