Peter Ammon ( German: Peter Ammon , b. February 23, 1952 , Frankfurt ) is a German diplomat and from 2008 to 2011 he was Secretary of State at the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs . Since August 2011, he has been appointed German Ambassador to Washington .

Biography
Peter Ammon studied mathematics , physics and economics . In the period from 1975 to 1978, he received a doctorate in economics and worked as a research fellow at the Free University of Berlin .
Having entered the diplomatic service, until 1980, Ammon studied at the Diplomatic Academy in Bonn . His first foreign appointment was the embassy in London , and then the embassy in Dakar . Then he was transferred to the economic department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 1989 to 1991, he served at the German Embassy in New Delhi until he was transferred to Bonn to the Human Resources Department. From 1996 to 1999, Ammon was the head of the political planning apparatus of the federal government. Until 2001, he was ambassador and head of the economic department of the embassy in Washington. There he served 6 years as head of the Department of Economics and Sustainable Development of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. At the same time, he worked as a Sherpa at the meetings of the Big Eight . From July 2007 to June 2008, Assistant Secretary Ammon served as German Ambassador to France . [1] On August 2, 2008, Ammon was appointed State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, replacing Georg Boomgaarden.
In August 2011, Ammon was appointed successor to Klaus Schariot , German Ambassador to Washington.
Peter Ammon is married and has two children. [2]
