Allies in the First World War - the common name for members of a coalition of states that were at war with a block of the so-called Central Powers during the First World War . The concept of the Allies is not identical to the concept of the Entente : the members of this military bloc, founded before the war, were Great Britain , France and Russia . Italy entered the war on their side in 1915. Japan , Belgium , Serbia , Montenegro , Greece , Romania and the Czechoslovak legions were not fully members of the Entente. In addition, subsequently other states entered the war, which were not members of the Entente at all — Portugal , the United States of America, and others. [one]
The United States declared war on Germany on the grounds that Germany violated the neutrality of the United States by attacking American ships engaged in international shipping, and because of the Zimmerman telegram sent to Mexico [2] . The US entered the war as an “associated force,” not a formal ally of France and Britain.
