Soldier Lake has karst origin [2] and is fed by water from underground sources [3] . It is located in the side of the ancient karst basin composed of Akchagyl clays [4] . Since the level of the lake often falls, there is an opinion that under it there is another underground lake. The diameter of the water mirror is 250 m [3] .
Name Origin
There are several versions of the origin of the name of the lake. According to the most fabulous legend, a soldier in a hole in boots once walked past a lake. When he saw someone’s new boots near him, he put them on, and the boots took him to the lake [3] . According to another version, it was named so because soldiers of the First World War and the Great Patriotic War, who were being treated at Ufa hospitals, rested on the lake shore (there is also an implausible legend that amputated soldiers were thrown into the lake) [3] . However, the most reliable version is considered to be according to which the lake was named after the Soldier’s vegetable gardens that existed next to it (now in their place is the southern part of the Yakutov park) for which water was used lake water [3] .
History
The lake was already marked on the maps of the middle of the XIX century [3] .
In 1904, a park was laid out next to the Soldier Lake, which soon surrounded it. In the 1930s the lake was cleaned and ennobled, for the first time they organized boating. During the Great Patriotic War, the Club of the Locomotive Repair Plant (today it is the House of Culture of Railway Workers) housed the hospital [3] .
In Soviet times, the lake was given the name "Komsomolskoe", which did not take root and was hardly mentioned [3] . In the northern part of the lake until the 1990s. there was a pipe from which water was supplied. After the cessation of recharge, the water level in the lake periodically decreased significantly, it was shallow, overgrown with bushes and grass.
Lake today
Fish are found in the lake, ducks and seagulls live on it [5] . Although the lake was cleaned of debris and dirt, bathing in it in the summer is still prohibited, but in the winter swimming of “walruses” is organized in the lake [6] . On the lake, boat and catamaran rental was arranged, fountains were installed, beating to a height of up to 20 m, children's attractions work [7] . There is a summer cafe on the shore.
