Title
Originally called May Day. The modern name is given to the village Ermeli (Ermeәl), which disappeared during the years of Kalmyk deportation , located 4 kilometers east of the modern village [3] [4]
History
It was founded as a village of the central estate organized in 1978 by the Kormovoy state farm , specialized in the production of feed [5] , created on the basis of the Gashunsky state farm farm . A school building for 320 students was built in the 1980s. In 1988, the building of the house of culture was commissioned [6] . By 1989, about 490 people lived in the village [7] .
In the 1990s, the Kormovoi state farm went bankrupt, the village fell into decay. In 2008, the local high school closed. In it at that time there were 5 students. Today, out of more than 120 yards, 60 remain [8] . In 2009, it was decided to liquidate the Ermelyn rural municipality by joining the Gashunsky SMO [9] .
Physico-geographical characteristics
The village is located in the west of the Caspian lowland , which is part of the East European Plain . The average height above sea level is 1 m [1] . The terrain is flat. 2 km south of the village flows the Yashkul River [10] .
By road, the distance to the capital of Kalmykia, the city of Elista is 67 km, to the district center of the village of Yashkul - 32 km, to the administrative center of the rural settlement of the village of Gashun - 13 km [11] . There is an asphalt road to the village from the federal highway Astrakhan - Elista P216 (4.9 km).
According to the Köppen-Geiger classification of climates, the type of climate is semi - arid . The average annual air temperature is 10.0 ° C and the rainfall is 276 mm. In the vicinity of the village, brown desert-steppe saline soils in the complex are solonetzic [12] .

According to the 2002 census, the majority of the population of the village were Kalmyks (76%) [14]
Social Infrastructure
In the village there is a house of culture, a library. Medical services for the residents of the village are provided by the local feldsher-midwife station and the Yashkul central district hospital. The villagers receive secondary education at the Gashun secondary school located in the village of Gashun [15] .
Ermeli village is electrified but not gasified. Water supply is carried out individually, by supplying water to each household [6] .
