In accordance with French law, senators are elected by an electoral college, which includes members of the National Assembly, members of the regional and general councils, and delegates from municipal councils. The number of places is determined by the population. The Senate has been allocated 7 seats to the Pas de Calais Department. In the event that 4 or more senators are elected from the department, the selection is made among the lists of candidates according to the proportional system using the Heire method . The list of candidates should include 2 candidate names more than the number of mandates, and men and women should alternate on the list.
