Story

The series tells the story of Whitney Cummings from Chicago , depicting a fictionalized version of herself, and her very supportive roommate. Although the couple decided that they would not marry, Whitney doubts how much they are committed to each other after their 3-year relationship, and is trying to prove her point. She begins to fear that a “relationship of boredom” and daily routine might end their relationship. Judging by what she sees and hears around her, Whitney decides to use unconventional methods to preserve romance in a relationship with the help of her close friends. [four]

Reception

Reception Critics

Whitney received mostly negative reviews. The rating is 49 out of 100 on Metacritic . [10] The pilot episode received a D rating given by Eric Adams and Steve Heather, citing Cummings' weak acting skills. [eleven]

The Huffington Post found a number of quite inspiring moments in the series, many characters were well appreciated. As for Roxy, one of the minor characters, the reviewer noted that “you have to wonder if the real Whitney has never met a divorced woman, or if her research ended with a review of her whole life. Perhaps this show would one day be better as the original film. ” [12]

Not all reviews were harsh, but Robert Lloyd of The Los Angeles Times writes: "In the end, the mood improves, the farce relaxes, the series can be a charming comedy." [13]

Ratings

The series first debuted on CTV in Canada on September 19, 2011, three days before its American premiere on NBC . The show won its time interval with two million viewers, recruited from the previous long-awaited ninth season of the series " Two and a Half People ." [14]

In its humble US debut on NBC , the series attracted 6.7 million viewers with a rating of 4.0 / 6. However, more importantly, the pilot series earned 3.2 in the 18-49 category of demo rating, which often depends on the cost of advertising. [15] In December, the rating fell to 4 million viewers and 1.9 in the 18-49 category, which is described on Entertainment Weekly as a “muddy rating”. [sixteen]
