Zaton Limenda, Kotlas

Zaton , Zavod [1] , Potcha [2] - a part of the river’s water area , protected from ice flow and currents , a river bay of considerable size, convenient for wintering or permanent ship parking [3] .

Backwaters can be both natural, for example, the old man’s riverbed that has turned into a gulf, part of the water area fenced off from the main water area by an oblique or river island , and artificial, fenced off from the main water area of the river by dams . Most often, the backwater is located in the old riverbeds (old man), in lakes on the floodplain , connected to the river by a channel , and when small tributaries flow into it.

Backwaters are often used for winter sludge of river vessels, and ship repair workshops are often located in them.

The word "zaton" is often found in toponyms , for example, the villages of Zaton and Kuybyshevsky Zaton , Moscow region Nagatinsky Zaton , Knyazhy Zaton street in Kiev .
