The government of Argentina concluded a contract for the construction of six multi-purpose corvettes according to the MEKO concept with Blohm & Voss on August 1, 1979. The lead ship of the Espora series was laid down in 1979, launched on January 28, 1982, and entered the Argentine Navy on September 4 1985 year . In 2005, the last ship of the series, the Gomez Roca , became part of the Argentine Navy. In total, six ships were built. As of 2012, all six ships are part of the Argentine Navy .
