Siphusauctum existed in Middle Cambrian about 510 million years ago. He ate by filtering plankton. He had a tulip-like body (“bowl”) through which he actively pumped water, the organic content of which was absorbed through the pores. The bowl was located on a long "stem", which was attached to the substrate. The body length was only about 20 cm [2] .
Described in 2012 from the numerous fossils found in the rocky formation of the Burgess shales in the territory of the Yoho National Park in the Canadian province of British Columbia .
The name of the genus comes from the Latin words siphus ("bowl" or "cup") and auctus ("large"), which is associated with the shape and appearance of this creature. The name of the species comes from the Latin gregalis ("flock" or "herd") and is associated with a large number of specimens found together [1] .
