Biography
Franz Josef Kallenbach was born on August 21, 1893 . He studied at the Ernst Ludwig Seminary in Bensheim , then taught in Darmstadt . Franz Kallenbach was an expert on mushrooms from the Boletovye family , and also studied rot caused by house mushroom ( Serpula lacrymans ). The Callenbach monograph on flying animals was published in the book Reihe Die Pilze Mitteleuropas (Mushrooms of Central Europe). Illustrations for this work were created by Franz's wife, Maria Callenbach. Kallenbach was a member of the Mycological Society of Germany . Franz Josef and Maria Callenbach died on September 11, 1944 during the British bombing of Darmstadt.
