Changji ( Chinese: . , Pinyin : Chāngjí , Uygh. سانجى , Sanji) is a city county in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China . It is part of the Changji Hui Autonomous Okrug . The word "Changji" is a distortion of the Mongolian "Yangji" - the name of the ancient city located in these places.

History
During the Han Empire, the principality of Danhuan (單 桓 國) was located here with its capital in the city of the same name. Population: 27 families, 194 people, 45 warriors. Chinese administration: three officials and a translator.
In 1761, the Qing Empire began the construction of a fortification in these places, which was completed in 1762 and was called "Ningbian" (宁边) - "Tranquil Border". In 1773 a county was formed here.
In 1983, Changji County was transformed into a city county.
Geography
Changji-Hui Autonomous Region is located in Changji . The total area of the city district is 8,215 km², of which 40.7% are mountains, 32.5% of the plains, 26.8% of the desert, the length of the county from north to south is 260 km, and from east to west 30 km. The population is made up of Han Chinese, Hui, Kazakhs, Uyghurs and other 32 ethnic groups.

This region has a semi-arid continental climate, the average annual rainfall is 183-200 mm, the average annual temperature is 6.6 ℃, the sunshine per year is 2833 hours, and the average frost-free period is 166-180 days.

Economics
In the vicinity of Changji, people are engaged in crop production and animal husbandry. Wheat, corn, sugar beets, sunflowers, melons, beans, vegetables and other crops are adapted to the local climate. Changji has a university.
Transport
Changji lies on such large routes as Godao 312 , Lansin and Second Urumqi Jinghei Railways.
