About the album
The disc was recorded on Setanta Records in 1989 . The producers of the album were Tom Dokojupil and Phil Fornelli, the last of which was a member of The Cure and Johnny Hates Jazz . The disc was reissued in 2002 .
The composition of the album tells of Collins' tiredness from life, in which he reflected his love pessimism and cynicism directed against the entertainment industry. The writing of the songs was obviously done with skill. Reggae- style guitarist Dennis Bowell and Roddy Frame of Aztec Camera , who also played the guitar, contributed to the record. The highlight here was the song “Beginning of the End”, revealing the musician’s passive attitude towards living standards. In terms of genre, on Hope and Despair there are melodies recorded both in country style and in the blue-eyed pop genre [1] .
