Medvedev, Dmitry Alexandrovich

Dmitry Aleksandrovich Medvedev ( September 21, 1918 - November 26, 1992 ) - Soviet military commander, military pilot , Hero of the Soviet Union ( 05/15/1946 ). During World War II - commander of the 486th Fighter Aviation Regiment of the 279th Fighter Aviation Division of the 3rd Guards Assault Aviation Corps of the 5th Air Army of the 2nd Ukrainian Front , lieutenant colonel [1] .

Biography

Born September 21, 1918 in the village of Uzlovaya (now the city of the Tula region) in a working class family. Russian Member of the CPSU (b) since 1944. He graduated from 9 classes.

In the Red Army since 1935.

In 1937 he graduated from the 8th Odessa Military Aviation Pilot School named after P. D. Osipenko and served in the Belarusian Military District .

Member of the battles against Japanese troops on the Khalkhin Gol River in the summer of 1939. He commanded a squadron of the 22nd Fighter Aviation Regiment (23rd Fighter Aviation Brigade, 1st Army Group). Altogether, in the sky of Mongolia, he made 75 sorties, shot down two fighters (including one I-96 - with ramming on opposite courses) and one enemy bomber. For this company he was awarded the Order of the Red Banner , the Mongolian Order, and received the early rank of senior lieutenant .

Member of the Soviet-Finnish war of 1939-1940 . Flying on an I-153 biplane, he commanded a link in the squadron of Joseph Geibo of the 7th fighter aviation regiment . The regiment was based on the ice of the frozen Lake Valk-Yarvi (now called Nakhimovsky ), was engaged in attacking ground targets and escorting its bombers.

In early March 1940, the plane of D.A. Medvedev was hit by anti-aircraft fire, and the pilot miraculously survived - the car fell to the ground and fell to pieces. A week later, having recovered a little, he participated in the battles for the liberation of Vyborg .

On the fronts of World War II from June 1941. During the war, Dmitry Medvedev made 298 sorties, personally destroyed 14 and in a group of 15 enemy aircraft (excluding victories at Khalkhin Gol).

The title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the awarding of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal (No. 7522) was awarded to Dmitry Alexandrovich Medvedev by a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of May 15, 1946, courage and high flying skill shown in the fight against the German invaders.

After the war, D. A. Medvedev, in 1951, graduated from the Red Banner Air Force Academy [2] . He commanded a fighter air division. In 1959 he graduated from the Military Academy of the General Staff .

Since 1960, he served in the Strategic Missile Forces : deputy commander of a missile army, commander of a separate missile corps, deputy head of the A. F. Mozhaysky Military Engineering Academy .

Since 1975, Lieutenant General Medvedev - in stock. He lived in the hero city of Leningrad (since 1991 - St. Petersburg ), was chairman of the city Council of war and labor veterans.

He died on November 26, 1992.
