Biography
Boxing was born in Gravesend, England. Educated as a chemist. During the Second World War, he conducted experiments on small animals for the British Army . In order to analyze the results of experiments began to study statistics. After the war, he received a bachelor's degree from University College London in mathematics and statistics. In 1953, he received a Ph.D. from Egon Pearson at the University of London .
From 1948 to 1956, Boxing worked as a statistician at Imperial Chemical Industries . While working there, he took a year off to become a professor at the University of North Carolina.
In 1960, he moved to the University of Wisconsin in Madison , where he founded the Department of Statistics.
In 1992, he officially retired, receiving the title of Honorary Professor.
Boxing has been married three times. The second wife was Joan Fisher, the second daughter of Ronald Fisher . He died on March 28, 2013 at the age of 93 years [1] .
