Biography

Christian Friedrich Schumacher was born on November 15, 1757 in the city of Gluckstadt on the land of Holstein in Germany in the family of the surgeon Joachim Christian Schumacher and Carolina Magdalena.

In 1773, at the age of 16, he became a military doctor in his father's battalion, based in Rendsburg .

In 1777, he studied at the Anatomical and Surgical School in Copenhagen (now part of the University of Copenhagen ) for 8 months.

In 1778, Schumacher began working as a prospector at the University of Copenhagen. Then Christian Friedrich began to study botany from Kristen Rothboll and Martin Val .

Schumacher worked as a doctor at the Anatomical and Surgical School and at the Frederick Hospital.

In 1786, he became an academician.

In 1785, Schumacher began to teach chemistry at the Copenhane Medical School.

From 1786 to 1789, Schumacher traveled to Europe . In Paris, he attended lectures by A. Lavoisier and A. Fourcroix in chemistry and Ant. Jussie on botany.

From 1795 to 1813, Christian was a professor of surgery at the University of Copenhagen.

In 1817, Schumacher became a doctor of medicine at the University.

In 1819, he became professor at the Department of Anatomy and director of the Anthropological Museum in Copenhagen [1] .

Christian Friedrich died on December 9, 1830 in Copenhagen .
