He worked as a language and literature teacher at the school, editor of the Radio Information Committee under the Council of People's Commissars of the ChSSR, editor of the Chuvash Book Publishing House , and head of Chuvashglavlit.

In 1937-1940, Kuzma Turhan served in the Red Army, took part in the campaign for the liberation of Western Belarus and in battles with white Finns.

Creativity

Kuzma Turhan published his first book “In Attack” in 1941. The author described in it a harsh war with the White Finns, about daily soldier labor, about the courage and exploits of Soviet soldiers during the liberation of Western Belarus and Western Ukraine.

The greatest work on the volume and significance in the life of K. Turkhan is the trilogy novel “Sviyaga flows into the Volga”, for which the author was awarded the State Prize of the Chuvash Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic named after K.V. Ivanova. The trilogy tells the fate of the Chuvash people about the tragedy of the loss by the Chuvash of their statehood and independence. Masterfully conveyed with an artistic word how the Chuvash tried to lead to moral and spiritual death, degeneration, how its culture and traditions were destroyed, how the process of Russification and the transition of the Chuvash to Mohammedanism was going on. What helped the original people to survive and not fall out of world historical development during that terrible doldrums? K. Turkhan is seeking answers to this question primarily in the spiritual and moral qualities of his native people.

In the novel “Sviyaga flows into the Volga” one feels a special national flavor: in language, everyday paintings, characters, philosophy, psychology, and the behavior of heroes.

Kuzma Turhan is also an excellent literary translator. He translated the “Russian People” by K. Simonov, the novel “Taras Bulba” by N. Gogol, the novel “The Twelfth Year” by S. Grigoriev and other works of Russian writers into the Chuvash language.

K. Turkhan died on May 29, 1988 in Cheboksary.
