Biography
Born on June 2 ( June 14 on the new style) in 1892 .
In 1911-1914 he studied at the St. Petersburg Polytechnic Institute.
Member of the First World War . From 1918 he served in the aeronautic units of the Red Army.
He graduated from the Academy of Air Fleet named after Professor N. E. Zhukovsky ( 1925 ). He worked at the Higher Military Aeronautical School of the Air Force (in Leningrad), the N.A. Zhukovsky Air Force Engineering Academy and the Air Force Research Institute.
In 1932–1933 he headed the rubber industry OKB for the construction of the USSR-1 stratostat (designer of the stratostat shell). On September 30, 1933, he flew on this stratostatus together with G. A. Prokofiev and E. K. Birnbaum (19 km high reached). At the time of the flight he worked as head of the design office of the Scientific-Experimental Institute of the Rubber Industry.
Developed a number of tethered and free balloons and flew them. Balloon barrage design Godunov used in the air defense during World War II .
He died on May 25, 1965 . He was buried at the Donskoy Cemetery in Moscow.

Awards
