Biography
The native Odessa citizen Sergey Zharkov began to engage in football in the SDYUSHOR of his native city, where Alexander Dmitrievich Ruga was his coach. At the age of fifteen, he was enrolled in the backup composition of the Odessa "Black Sea" [1] .
Even in his youth, during a fight, Sergei got a stone in his face. The blow was so strong that he stopped seeing with his right eye. Playing football, Zharkov in every possible way concealed his ailment from doctors and coaches. There was a fraud at one of the medical commissions at Chornomorets , but by then the 17-year-old footballer, who had only one eye, could already prove his worth on the football field [2] .
Soon Zharkov was invited to the USSR youth team, where he became its main player. In 1977, he was part of the national team at the Youth World Championships held in Tunisia and ended with the victory of the Soviet team. Due to a conflict with coach Sergei Mosyagin, Sergei did not enter the field, although he still received a gold medal as a team member [1] .
In 1978, he was drafted into the army and sent to the Odessa SKA , speaking in the first league. Such famous footballers as Igor Belanov , Valdas Kasparavichyus , Peter Chilibi “served” in the team along with Zharkov [2] .
Having played at the army club for two and a half years, he returned to Chernomorets , becoming a player of the main team, for many years staking his right brow behind him, playing both in defense and in the middle line. In 1984, Odessa took 4th place in the USSR championship, having received the right to represent the country in the UEFA Cup , where Sergei made his debut on September 18, 1985 in the match against the German Werder Bremen .
After spending 9 seasons with the Chornomorets, in 1988 he decided to end his playing career. During the year he played for the USSR veteran team. Later he went camping on the Maxim Gorky ship , where he was enlisted as a sports instructor. As part of the crew, he made three round-the-world trips and a trip to the Spitsbergen archipelago [2] .
In 1992, he received an invitation from the team of SK "Odessa" , where he was her playing coach, and in 1993 - the head coach. Later, due to disagreements with the leadership of the club, he left the coaching post [2] . From 1994 to 2000 he played for amateur groups “Blago” (Blagoevo) , “Fisherman” (Odessa), “Lotto-GCM” . With the last team, I made it to the second league tournament, where in the 1997/98 season she performed under the name SKA-Lotto .
