It comes from the ancient Greek Διομήδης “Diomedes”, which has two components. According to one version, the first part Διός (Ζεύς) means “Zeus” [1] , and according to another, “god” [2] or “divine” [3] . The second part of μήδεσθαι is “to ponder, think” [1] [2] or “care, patronize” [3] .
Christianity from Byzantium came to Russia . According to V. A. Nikonov , by the 1980s, the name in the USSR was no longer in use [2] .
The name was used as a paremia in a rhyme form: Foku put on your side, and Demid directly looks [4] .
