Initial Biography

Nikolai Matveevich Telyakov was born on May 5, 1902 in Petrograd into a working-class family.

After graduating from four classes, Telyakov worked as a locksmith .

Military Service

Civil War

Since October 1918 he served in the ranks of the Red Army . He took part in the Civil War . He fought on the Southern Front as a Red Army man and machine-gun chief in the 13th Rifle Regiment, then as a division commander in the 80th separate battalion of the Cheka.

Interwar

In 1921 he graduated from the accelerated courses of the red commanders at the Higher Tactical Rifle School of the Red Army Commander of the 3rd Comintern, after which he commanded a platoon in the 16th railway regiment of the OGPU in March of that year, and from October of that year - a training ground for company 3 th aviation regiment.

At the end of the 2 Smolensk command courses in 1923, from October of that year he commanded a platoon in a separate machine-gun battalion in Petrograd, then in the 48th rifle regiment of the 16th rifle division and in a separate Kuzhenkinsky guard guard battalion.

In 1925 he joined the ranks of the CPSU (b) .

From December 1928 he worked as the head of the economic team at the V.I. Lenin Leningrad Infantry School , and from December 1930 to May 1931, he was an assistant company commander of the 30th Cherepovets Rifle Regiment of the 10th Rifle Division .

Since October 1931, at the end of advanced training courses for the command staff , Vystrel worked as an assistant chief of staff of the 2nd Tank Regiment ( Leningrad Military District ). From March 1932 he worked as chief of the 6th part of the headquarters of the 31st mechanized brigade , and since July 1934 - as head of the department at the headquarters of the 33rd mechanized brigade .

In January 1937 he was sent to the Leningrad armored courses of the Red Army , which he graduated in the same year and was immediately sent to study at the Military Academy of the Red Army M.V. Frunze , which he graduated in 1939 .

From October 1939, he worked as an inspector of a control group in Ukraine, from November 1939, he commanded the 13th reserve tank regiment, and from December 1939, the 32nd tank regiment in the 5th cavalry division ( Kiev Military District ), with which He was transferred to the front and took part in the Soviet-Finnish war .

World War II

Since June 1941, he took part in battles on the fronts of World War II.

He commanded the same regiment during border battles on the Southern Front : he led defensive battles near Chisinau , the Dniester , the Southern Bug , and the Dnieper .

From October 1941 he commanded the 13th tank regiment of the 13th tank brigade , took part in the Donbass operation from October to November 1941.

Since January 1942, Nikolai Matveyevich Telyakov served as deputy commander of the 7th Tank Brigade , and since April 1942 he commanded the 107th Tank Brigade , distinguished itself during the Battle of Stalingrad and the Battle of Kursk , where it repelled enemy attacks in the direction of Ponyry , and then led offensive to the Dnieper during the Chernihiv-Pripyat operation .

In October 1943, Nikolai Matveyevich Telyakov was appointed deputy commander of the 3rd Panzer Corps , commanded from November 5 to December 16, 1943, after which he again became deputy corps commander. He took part in the Kiev defensive and Korsun-Shevchenkovsky operations .

By Decree of the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR of February 18, 1944 No. 187, Colonel Nikolai Matveevich Telyakov was awarded the military rank of "Major General of Tank Forces."

Since March 1944, he was again appointed to the post of commander of the 3rd Panzer Corps, commanding which, Telyakov organized combat operations of the corps during the Uman-Botoshan operation . Having broken through the enemy’s defenses near the city of Uman ( Cherkasy region , Ukraine ), the 3rd Panzer Corps, along with other formations, liberated the city of Uman on March 10, 1944.

By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 11, 1944 for skillful command of the tank corps, exemplary performance of command missions at the front of the battle against Nazi invaders and the courage and heroism shown, Major General of the Tank Forces Nikolai Matveevich Telyakov was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the presentation of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal (No. 3554).

Soon, the corps took part in the Belarusian operation , especially distinguishing themselves at the Magnushevsky bridgehead .

Since September 1944, Telyakov commanded the 16th tank corps , converted in November to the 12th Guards , which distinguished itself during the Warsaw-Poznan and East Pomeranian operations , participating in the liberation of Warsaw , Skierniewice , Inowroclaw , Gollnov ( Goleniow ).

On April 26, 1945, during the battle on the outskirts of Berlin, Nikolai Matveevich Telyakov was seriously injured in a mine explosion.

Post-War Career

By Decree of the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR of July 11, 1945 No. 1683, Major General of Tank Forces Nikolai Matveevich Telyakov was awarded the military rank of “ Lieutenant General of Tank Forces ”.

In May 1946, Telyakov was appointed head of the Poltava Tank Technical School, and since October 1947 he worked as a teacher in the armored forces department of the Academy of Border Troops of the USSR NKVD ( Moscow ).

In 1948, Telyakov retired, after which he lived in Moscow, where he died on August 26, 1950 . He was buried at the Novodevichy cemetery .

Memory

A school of military glory of the 2nd Guards Tank Army named after Hero of the Soviet Union N. M. Telyakov was created at school No. 324 Moscow.

In Moscow, at house 3 on Savvinskaya embankment , in which the Hero lived, a memorial plaque was installed.
