Biography

Shelley Alexis Duval was born July 7, 1949 in Houston , Texas , in the family of real estate broker Bobby Ruth Crawford and her husband, lawyer Robert Richardson Duval. The family grew up and three brothers Shelley - Scott, Shane and Stuart. Duval studied at Waltrip School , after which she sold cosmetics for some time. Shelley made her film debut in 1970 , when she was spotted by people directed by Robert Altman and played in his comedy Brewster McCloud ".

Altman was so shocked by Duval that he invited him to his next films [2] : Western “ McCabe and Mrs. Miller ” (1971), the crime drama “ Thieves Like Us ” (1974) and the musical “ Nashville ” (1975). Since 1977, Duval’s career has gone uphill: the actress was awarded the prize for best actress at the 30th Cannes Film Festival for playing the role of Millie Lammurieu in Robert Altman’s drama “ Three Women ” [1] . For the same role, Shelley was nominated for the prestigious British BAFTA Award , but lost at the award ceremony Diane Keaton [3] . In the same year, the actress appeared in Woody Allen ’s romantic comedy “ Annie Hall ”, which won the Academy Award for Best Film of the Year [4] .

Duval's next role was the most celebrated of her career. The actress reincarnated as Wendy Torrens, the wife of writer Jack Torrens, who is gradually losing her mind in the Stanley Kubrick film “The Shining ” (an adaptation of the eponymous novel by Stephen King ). The husband of the heroine Duval was played by the Oscar-winning actor Jack Nicholson . Despite the success and popularity of the film, Duvall herself received negative reviews for the acting in this film and was nominated for the "antipreview" Golden Raspberry , but the figurine went to Brooke Shields [5] . Duval's most significant roles in the 1980s were Olive Oil in Popeye (1980), Pansy in The Time Bandits (1981), Susan Frankenstein in Frankenvini (1984) and Dixie in Roxane (1987).

For the production of television series “ Incredible Tales and Legends "And" Bedtime Stories by Shelley Duval, "the actress was awarded two nominations for the Emmy Television Award in 1988 and 1992, respectively. Since 2002, she has not acted in films.

Personal life

Shelley Duvall was married to producer Bernard Sampson from 1970 to 1977 . From 1976 to 1979, Duval met with the famous musician and composer Paul Simon [2] .

In November 2016, for the first time after a long break, she appeared on television in the television show Dr. Phil , where she admits that she is suffering from a mental disorder [6] .
