Biography

Orange Juice group became famous for its only super hit “Rip it Up”, which ranked eighth in the Top 40 UK Singles Chart [3] . In 1985, the team ceased to exist after a long and difficult lawsuit with the group's label . Edwin Collins left the band, began a solo career and collaborated with the label Creation Records [2] . In 1994, Collins released the single “A Girl Like You,” which became popular due to the appearance in the films “Empire Store” , “ Charlie's Angels: Just Ahead, ” and Magic Piper of Love . In 1997, he was featured on the soundtrack for the film “ Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery ”. Edwin Collins built his own recording studio in 1994 and produced his third solo album, Gorgeous George . The musician did not stop there, he worked as a music producer with other artists, such as: The Proclaimers , Vick Howard, A House , Space , Robert Foster, The Cribs , Little Bari. In 2004, Italian musicians Max Bottini and Filippo Clary from the new jazz band Gabin invited Edwin Collins to record the main single “Mr. Freedom "for their second studio album, Mr. Freedom .

In May 2009, Edwin Collins won the Ivor Novello Awards [1] . On October 2, 2009, Collins' wife, Grace Maxwell, said that Edwin Collins could not post his song on the Myspace social network, due to copyright issues. She, along with Collins, tried to prove that the rights to the song “A Girl Like You” are entirely in the hands of Collins, and not in the ownership of the Warner Music Group , as they believe. “The rights to the song were before Warner Music Group. But now Collins is right, ”says his wife [4] .

The eighth studio album was released in the UK on September 13, 2010 , which became Collins' second album after his long illness in 2005 . Losing Sleep was recorded at West Heath Studios from November 2008 until May 2010, and was produced by Orange Juice frontman Sebastian Lyuvsli, who worked with such stars as The Cribs, The Drums , Ryan Jarman, Johnny Marr , Alex Capranos , Nick McCarthy, Romeo Stodart and Roddy Frame .

Personal life

Collins is married to Grace Maxwell, who is his manager . The couple lives in London, they have a son, William [5] . In 2005, Collins, in an interview on BBC 6 Music radio, reported that he was tormented by nausea and dizziness due to food poisoning. Two days later, he was taken to the Royal Free Hospital in London for treatment. He also suffered from cerebral hemorrhage. After that, on February 25, 2005, he underwent an operation, followed by neurosurgical rehabilitation, but it was difficult, and Collins also had problems with speaking [6] . Because of the aphasia from which he suffered, he could only say “yes”, “no”, “Grace Maxwell” and “the possibilities are endless” [7] . Collins' seventh studio album was released in September 2007 via Heavenly Records under the name Home Again. [2] It was recorded before Collins disease, but with some changes after the disease. Collins returned to sing live and gave a concert at the London Art Theater. In November 2009, he appeared on the stage in the dance hall of London's Bloomsbury Ballroom, he was in a black jacket, spoke to the public very slowly, twisting his right hand. But when he began to sing, he proved that he possesses the same powerful baritone [9] .
