Meridor, Dan

Dan Meridor was born on April 23, 1947 in the territory of Mandatory Palestine in the family of an associate of Menachem Begin Eliyahu Meridor and Dr. Raanana Meridor ^[1] . He drafted into the IDF, where he served in the armored forces and rose to the rank of officer. He participated in the Six Day War ^[2] .

Meridor is a graduate of the law faculty of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem , where he received a bachelor's degree.

Between 1982 and 1984, Meridor served as secretary of government. In 1984, he became a member of the 11th Knesset , as a member of the Likud party , in this convocation he worked as chairman of two subcommittees of parliament. In 1988, he was re-elected to the Knesset of the 12th convocation , at that convocation there were two governments headed by Yitzhak Shamir , in both governments Meridor served as Minister of Justice of Israel .

Subsequently, he retained his place in the Knesset, speaking as a member of the Likud party in the thirteenth and fourteenth convocations. In 1998, he became one of the members of his party who left it and created a new party, “Israel at the Center” (later the “ Center Party ”). From this party, he was elected to the Knesset of the 15th convocation. In 2003 - returned to Likud ^[2] . After the 16th Knesset elections ( 2003 ), Dan Meridor lost his seat in the Knesset.

For about a year, he served as Minister of Finance in the 27th government of Israel , giving way to Benjamin Netanyahu . In Sharon’s first government , he was a “minister without a portfolio”

At the primaries in Likud, before the elections to the 18th Knesset, he took 17th place, in the government formed by Benjamin Netanyahu , Meridor became Minister for Intelligence Services and the Atomic Energy Commission ^[3] .

In the 19th Knesset, Meridor did not run ^[4] .
